It would be helpful to be able to apply different point sizes directly to a layer, without the need to scale to a variable (maybe similarly thickness of a line). This can help a lot with visualizations when you want to emphasize certain things or provide some info more in the background/subtly. I currently use a workaround with a dummy variable of point size that works but is clunky.
